Gaffney reiterates the party's prior names, then states that he must inform his network of associates of what has occurred. He will direct the party to go to a seedy pub called "The Infamous Garden" and meet Observer Sydney. The code phrase to meet her is:
"Have you heard the news?" followed by, "Aye, and by the King, this world grows stranger every fortnight."
LEADS:
Sydney's Quest:
Sydney will tell the party they are part of an organization called the Bel Thur, and will press the party on what they know about the vault in their ship "The Imperium." Upon discovering that they are unable to enter it, she will tell them that there may be another way. She will send the party to speak with "Magistrate" Arto, in the library.
Arto will inspect the vault and state that he believes it responds to dragon's blood. If the party takes this info back to Sydney, she will say she has heard of a tribe of kobolds who have taken up residence in the old Lagoon Point, and she believes one among them has grown wings and shows sign of some draconic lineage. She will task them with bringing her back alive and unharmed.
Baron Yasaran's inquiries:
Baron Yasaran has heard disturbing rumors of the goings on at Tradestown, and will send one of his Captain of Security Jordan Tybil along with two guardsmen to question the party. They are initially non-confrontational, but if the party acts as though they have something to hide they will attempt to impound the ship and later take in the group for questioning.
If the party makes a good impression, Jordan will ask them to speak to the baron directly.
In the keep, the party will find that Drazz the half-orc strongman has also been brought in for questioning, and to translate for a prisoner. If they ask about it, they will also discover that Mazorn was captured at the town gates and is being held.
Yasaran and his wife will listen to what the party has to say and give a gift of free inn stays for their cooperation. On the way out, Jordan will approach the party and tell them that his wife, Alyna, lived on a farmstead north of Tradestown and will reward the party with his magic longsword if they can find her and bring her back safely.
Duraina the fortune teller:
Duraina has the gift of sight, but works as a sideshow attraction in the circus. For 5sp she will pretend to read a fortune, but if the party appears wealthy and knowledgeable of magic, she will offer her 'true' reading for 25 gp. If paid, she will attempt to read a party member, but will be surprised and state that:
The party members' essence seems intertwined, almost certainly by magic. She will be surprised to note that [you] "have no past, though a cloud of darkness hangs heavy upon you."
"You are pawns in machinations that run far deeper than you can imagine... but even those who move those pawns do not comprehend the influence that pawns may ultimately carry."
